Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string. The legal basis for processing this data is our legitimate interest in maintaining the website’s security and ensuring a smooth user experience.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. There are many websites and tools that will remove this embedded information for free. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. You should only upload images if you are comfortable with sharing them, and the potential of embedded information being shown to others.

Should you upload an image that contains embedded information, you can contact us at webmaster@verty.gay and we can either remove the embedded information for you or delete the image entirely.

Cookies

We use functional cookies necessary for the operation of the website, and other cookies (such as analytics) that help us improve the website. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.

When you first visit our site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Make sure to check the privacy policies of these websites to ensure they align with your privacy needs. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of these websites to understand how they process your personal data.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email that is sent to you.

Akismet Anti-Spam

We use Akismet Anti-Spam, a service provided by Automattic, to help detect and prevent spam on our website. Akismet collects information about visitors who comment on our site. The information collected typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and site URL, along with other information directly provided by the commenter (such as their name, email address, and comment content). This data is processed solely for the purpose of spam detection. For more information on how Akismet handles data, you can view Automattic’s privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

Google reCAPTCHA

To protect our website from spam and abuse, we also use Google reCAPTCHA. This service checks whether the data submitted on our website (e.g., in a contact form) is entered by a human or an automated program. As part of this service, Google reCAPTCHA may collect personal information such as your IP address and other data required for its function, which is used to perform this analysis. The use of reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, which you can view here: https://policies.google.com/privacy and here: https://policies.google.com/terms.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely while your account is active on our website. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Activity that counts towards being considered active includes: visiting our website while logged in, leaving comments, submitting forms, etc. After a period of inactivity of two years, your account may be disabled and pruned of personal information. You can request to delete your comments at any time. If your account becomes inactive and is pruned, your comments will remain unless deleted by you or upon request.

Security Measures

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to secure your data, including encryption and access controls. We use industry-standard encryption methods (such as TLS) to protect your data during transmission and secure storage practices to protect your data at rest.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

In addition to the right to access and erasure, you also have the right to rectify inaccurate data, restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

If we transfer your data outside the EEA, we ensure the appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent data protection mechanisms.

Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any significant changes will be communicated to you via email (if we have it) or a prominent notice on our website.
